James 1:2-4—My brothers and sisters, whenever you face
trials of any kind, consider it nothing but joy, because you know that the
testing of your faith produces endurance; and let endurance have its full
effect, so that you may be mature and complete, lacking in nothing.
Though we might not always understand, we can always rest
assured that we are loved and adored by our Creator. God places upon us not only what we can handle,
but what we need to experience to develop into the persons He intends for us to
be. Without trials our faith has no
reason to grow, and it would be easy to become complacent and stagnate in our
devotion of God. Trials exist to affirm
our reliance on God, that we might declare in all circumstances, "it is well," no
matter our circumstance.
Today as you pray and meditate, worship God through the
words of the hymn it “It is Well with My Soul”: When peace like a river
attendeth my way, when sorrows like sea billows roll, whatever my lot, thou
hast taught me to say, it is well, it is well with my soul/Though Satan should
buffet, though trials should come, let this blest assurance control, that
Christ has regarded my helpless estate, and hath shed His own blood for my
soul. It is well, it is well with my soul.
