James 4:13-14—Now listen, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we
will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make
money.” Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life?
You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes.
This Scripture reminds us to live in the moment. Sometimes it is easy for us to get so caught
up in our own plans for our lives that we forget to listen to God’s plan for
us. But in the grand scheme of things,
our plans are so meaningless. As humans
we sometimes think we are really in control of everything that is happening to
us. The reality is, though, that God is
in full control. Our job is to listen to
His Call and honor Him by pursuing Him above all else. Each day, we are blessed with opportunities
to connect with God and with each other in new and more meaningful ways. When we allow ourselves to be open to
pursuing the opportunities that God has placed before us, we trust Him to carry
us into a more intimate relationship with Him.
Today as you pray and meditate on this Scripture, humble
yourself before God. Call on Him to lead
your path. Place all your personal wants
and desires before Him and surrender yourself to His Call. Pray for His Holy Spirit to speak to you and
guide you through each moment of every day.
